The São Francisco Fort, is one of the city's attractions that you should visit, especially if traveling with children, they will love it. Built in the seventeenth century was used as a defense in the Independence Restoration War waging the Spanish offensive, and as a deterrent of French, Dutch and British corsairs who pillaged coastal lands and stole boats with the Portuguese flag.

The name that is known (Castelo do Queijo – “Cheese Castel”) is due to it being built on a huge round granite stone, once (says the tradition) sacred place for Draganes, Celtic tribe who came to the Iberian Peninsula six centuries before Christ. We highlight the pentagonal watchtowers, the drawbridge, and the historical cannons that will give wings to the imagination of children. Currently belongs to the Command Association (North Delegation) and is used as a stage for cultural events, museum and entertainment. This site, due to its location, gives its visitors a unique perspective of the Atlantic.
